Need an App developer in Melbourne, we can get you on the AppStore quicker than you might think and for a realistic price. To help you get started heres some FAQ’s and advice to follow

1. What does an app cost?

A recent Age article listed 5 recent app created for Melbourne businesses all over $50k with the customers all agreed in the investment was worthwhile. At fatdog we use the latest technologies and a catalogue of standard code modules we can significantly reduce development times and can give you the best price for a quality product – a lot less than $50k!

2. How long does it take?

Of course this depends on the app complexity, we like to complete even the most complex apps within 12 weeks and normally complete most apps within 5 weeks for an small to medium business.

3. How can I monetize my app?

There’s lots of options here, its important that customers leverage the new mobile channel that an app provides into their business. Don’t rely on advertising or selling your app to Facebook by itself. We can help integrate your app into your overall business objectives to maximise benefits and shorten payback periods.

4. Android or Apple?

As we use the latest software available for App development we can design and develop in parallel providing apps for all 7 devices options with one set of code – again reducing costs and providing you complete flexibility.

5. How do we get started?

Get in touch here we can help you today, don’t miss out on the mobile app explosion…

Ok, so you want an app for your business, here’s a top 10 list of things to check with your developer,

Flowmap your app, make sure screens are linked and sequenced logically and simply

Be weary of over-defining functionality in the design, don’t overuse all the functionality for no reason

Always use high quality images, then look to compress or downsize

Keep the button size and ‘hit’ size easy to use, we use 2cm as finger hit width

Keep animation to a minimum and novel not cheesy

Ensure refresh rates are quick and inform users if app is refreshing with timer wheel or message

Embrace other operating systems, keep your brand but embrace other formats

Don’t over stuff pixel dense screens developed on large monitors into small device screen

Test, test, test, importantly with a range of users – invaluable…

Utilise subtle gestures, eg, the swipe action to delete, add some simple nice engineering

Overall we would advise keep it simple and do your thinking up front not when its too late involving time consuming rework and expense – go for it!

Melbourne App Drama’s!

There’s no such thing as bad publicity – not sure about that with over 900 iphone app users of PTV app blasting the new version as a backward step for users, take a look below at a few users feedback.

“Why on earth did you have to completely change an app that worked well?” user BradAlli posted. “Seemed all helpful features are gone, no full timetable, only the next few times available. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Better change it quick ‘cos it’s almost completely useless.”

Griffiths_r posted: “This new app makes me feel stupid! All I want to know is when my train leaves – New app is not intuitive at all”.

jTribe who built the app have gone to press explaining that PTV made further changes post handover and the issue is “out of our hands” a difficult time for jTribe, interesting conundrum when a customer modify’s a developers app without unforseen outcomes.

Having tested the app at fatdog its definitely disappointing, totally counterintuitive, slow to refresh, includes bugs, and overall a head ache to use. Overall this is yet another data point on our reliance on apps and the what the future holds…

Find out how fatdog Melbourne App Developers can keep you ahead of the competition with application development in Melbourne for iPhone, Android or Blackberry devices – you really can’t afford your business to miss out on the mobile market.

As expected the app market is continuing to accelerate globally, recent age articles demonstrate how apps are being used by small to medium businesses not just large corporates. This is a similar phenomena as web pages 20 years ago whereby big businesses are the first to lead the way looking for new methods to differentiate their business from their competitors.

The difference now is the speed by which apps have become cost effective for smaller businesses with (including our own) developers using new tools such as phonegap that can develop apps simultaneously on multiple platforms drastically reducing lead times and costs.

With almost everyone using their mobile to manage their life your business needs to have a presence on the move, not just at home in front of the desktop pc…
